Media group Cramer + Lonnemann is investing in industrial print production and autonomous printing to continue its growth

1. Company is further expanding its technological and quality leadership with two new Speedmaster XL 106 eight-color presses – one with a coating unit – and DryStar LED
2. New “Push to Stop” operating concept opens up huge opportunities for increased productivity
3. Machines include all the new functions of the drupa 2016 generation
4. Comprehensive service package for maximum availability

“We feel confident about the future of print and offset printing,” says Hubert Lonnemann, owner of the family-run Lonnemann GmbH in Selm, which has been in existence for over 100 years. At the very beginning of drupa, he signed a purchase contract for two of the latest drupa generation of the Speedmaster XL 106 presses featuring the innovative DryStar LED drying technology. “This press is coming at just the right time given the increasing industrialization of the print industry. UV LED technology is now ready for the market, meaning that we can get the ever shorter runs into postpress faster, because the sheet is dry when it comes out of the press.” It is also perfect for printing highly popular natural papers since it solves the problem of the ink penetrating into the fibers, giving a high-quality and authentic end product. Matt/gloss effects with partial UV coating are also possible here.

The new “Push to Stop” operating concept was a key factor in the purchase decision. Presses equipped with this feature start production automatically once all the prerequisites are met. “The operator assumes the role of order manager, making for an attractive and innovative place of work for our staff,” says Hubert Lonnemann confidently. As well as increasing productivity, this feature also ensures the highest level of quality. This is extremely important for Cramer + Lonnemann, since its client base includes domestic and overseas customers from industry, banking, agencies as well as the jewelry and fashion industry. This is what inspired Lonnemann to develop a number of trend-setting color printing processes such as “SixColor” for printing up to 99 percent of true colors using an extended color space. The company offers a full range of popular commercial print services and is known throughout the industry for printing color charts. Its digital printing services include personalized and customized products. The strengths of the two printing methods are realized in hybrid production. Other services include web-to-print and a letter shop as well as direct mailings. The in-house software company creios GmbH implements e-shop concepts.

Service is key to realizing the potential of the value chain

“We’re in the best possible hands with Heidelberg, particularly since we already have four Speedmaster presses in the 70 x 100 format and one Speedmaster press in the 30 x 50 format,” explains Hubert Lonnemann. The two new Speedmaster XL 106 presses are convertible eight-color presses, one of which has a coating unit. Both include the new functions introduced by Heidelberg at drupa and showcased to visitors as the latest innovations. These include the new high-performance machine control station Prinect Press Center XL 2 with Intellistart 2, Prinect Inpress Control 2, AutoPlate XL 2 as well as the new Hycolor Multidrive ink system. This enables rubber blankets and inking units to be washed at the same time, and inking units in printing units that are not in use to be shut down.

The first press will go into operation at Druckhaus Cramer in Greven in autumn of this year and the second in mid-2017. Druckhaus Cramer has been part of the Lonnemann media group since 2014.

A SystemService 36plus contract will also be concluded for the new presses. “What sets Heidelberg apart is its fast and extensive service,” says Hubert Lonnemann. Once all the machines are up and running, the processes will be optimized the following year with Performance Plus. “We like to take a step-by-step approach when it comes to our processes, and I’m sure that with Heidelberg’s help we can get even more performance and even more productivity from our entire value chain. This will give us much better oversight of the costs per order. Continued growth into the future is important to us.”

This investment by the family-run media company serves two purposes: continued growth and industrialization of its print production.
